A Pivotal Moment for Public Golf in Washington
For 86 years, Langston Golf Course has stood as one of the nation’s most important public golf destinations — a historic gathering place rooted in community, culture, and access to the game. Built during segregation and sustained across generations, Langston remains a living symbol of Black golf history and public recreation in Washington, DC.
Recent developments surrounding the future management and stewardship of DC’s public golf courses have brought renewed attention to the importance of protecting these spaces for future generations. While the National Links Trust has secured new long-term leases at Langston and Rock Creek Park Golf Course, the conversations surrounding public access, preservation, investment, and long-term community engagement continue to evolve.
